a coastal affair

There’s something about the Maine coast at sunset that feels timeless. At Otter Cliffs, the waves crash against the rocks in steady rhythm, gulls wheel overhead, and the faint clang of a buoy bell drifts across the water. Lobster boats move slowly through the golden light, their silhouettes carrying stories as old as the shore itself. The air carries that unmistakable mix of salt and pine, a reminder that here, land and sea are always in conversation.

It was in this setting that I had the privilege of photographing one of the most meaningful sessions of my career — my childhood best friend and her fiancé. When she reached out to me to capture this chapter of their story, it felt like a full-circle moment. We’d grown up together, shared countless memories, and now, here I was, camera in hand, documenting the beginning of her new life with the person she loves.

They had flown in from out of state, choosing the rugged coastline of Maine as the backdrop for their engagement session. Together we wandered the trails and cliffs, steadying each other over the rocks, pausing often just to take it all in. The light softened to a golden haze, wrapping them in that glow that feels like it was meant for love stories. We didn’t just take photos — we created intentional moments of laughter, quiet, and connection, woven into the landscape itself.

By the time the sun slipped beneath the horizon, we had more than a gallery of images. We had pieces of memory — their love carved into the wild, steadfast beauty of Maine’s coast. And for me, it was more than just a job. It was witnessing a friend step into a new season of life and freezing it, frame by frame, in a way that felt both intimate and timeless.
